Origins

FLOWA emerged from the artistic and pedagogical research of Manuela Bachmann Bernasconi.

Rooted in the Gaga movement language, which she studied in Tel Aviv under the guidance of Ohad Naharin,  FLOWA gradually evolved during the last 15 years toward a deeper investigation of language and its potential to generate movement, perception, and experience.

At its core, FLOWA is a process of deconstruction and restructuring of the ways we relate to reality and existence.

Based on the curiosity and studies of Manuela Bachmann Bernasconi, who studied dance and communication science, and grew up in a family of writers and language practitioners — her mother a translator and poet, her father a journalist, Italian teacher, and skilled dialectic speaker — Manuela has integrated her innate inclination for movement with a deep sensitivity to language, extending it beyond words into embodied and pre-verbal forms of communication.

FLOWA explores how words shape experience, how experience reshapes understanding, and how new possibilities emerge when established patterns are disrupted.

Today

Over the past two years, FLOWA has entered a new phase of development through a process of trans_mission.
A growing network of practitioners and trainers is now sharing the practice in different contexts, countries, and professional fields.

This expanding community contributes to the ongoing evolution of FLOWA while remaining connected to its core principles: letting go while moving.
